Board of Lay Ministry

The Board of Lay Ministry at Marco Lutheran is similar to the Board of Elders at more traditional Lutheran Churches. The board focuses on the worship experiences of our congregants, most noticeably by providing the volunteer assistance needed to enable each worship service to run smoothly.

Volunteer opportunities for both men and women include:

Lay Minister

Lay Ministers are typically members of the Board of Lay Ministry and coordinate the ushers and communion assistants at a church service. Together with the Head Usher, the Lay Minister is responsible for ensuring that doors are secured before the service begins and after it has concluded.

Worship Leader

Worship Leaders assist the Pastor in presenting the liturgy by leading responsorial psalms, reading scripture, assisting in communion preparation, serving communion in the Nave, and offering the Prayer of the People. If this is of interest to you, please talk with a Worship Leader or let the office know. We’d love to have you involved!

Head Usher

The Head Usher assigns usher duties, including assigning the crucifer and acolyte, dismissing congregants to receive communion, counting attendance, collecting records of attendance, and clearing the Nave of bulletins and other materials left behind. The Head Usher, together with the Lay Minister, is responsible for ensuring that doors are secured before the service begins and after it concludes.

Usher

Ushers assist congregants in finding seating and provide bulletins as needed. These men and women also serve as acolytes and crucifers.

Communion Assistant

Communion Assistants serve wine or grape juice to communicants during the communion service.

Greeters

Greeters are the first people to interact with members and visitors alike. They are the face of Marco Lutheran. Their role is to greet congregants as they enter the church for worship and direct guests to the Welcome Center.

AV/Tech Room Assistant

AV/Tech Room Assistants work with our technology coordinator to manipulate cameras linked to our video stream, stream our Sunday service live, advance slides, and adjust audio connections as needed.

Transporter

Transporters collect the donations made in the giving boxes at the front and back of the sanctuary and organize them by donation type. Then they insert the donations into the church safe.

Altar Guild

The altar guild prepares the elements for communion; provides support for the Pastor, Lay Minister, and communion assistants during communion; takes care of all paraments, and cleans up after communion each week.
